9 1/2 months old and walking!

Monday, December 24th, 2007

Zeke took his first steps on Friday. Below is a video taken on Friday. Today he took ten steps! Jimmy and I think it’s so exciting to see him walking on his own! He’s so young to be walking, but he’s pretty coordinated. His birthmom Sam walked at 9 months too. Everyone keeps telling us to watch out because he can get into so much more once he starts walking, but we can’t imagine that it would be any trickier than it is now. He can already crawl very fast and pull up to things. Maybe we’ll understand in a few weeks…

Big appetite

Monday, December 24th, 2007

Zeke has a great appetite! He loves food, and I hope he always does. Here are some fun photos of him climbing into the fridge, raiding the cupboard, and eating a tangerine, peel and all.

Zeke’s favorite picture

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

The other day I walked into our room to see that Zeke had pulled down an early picture of one of Esther and my first dates. He was just sitting on the floor looking at us. Sometimes I wonder if Zeke was watching us from up above during that time. The picture might bring back those memories. You never know.

Esther says he takes the picture down almost every morning.

Quirks

Monday, December 17th, 2007

It’s so much fun being married and learning new things about yourself, and your spouse! A few nights ago, Jimmy was laughing at me for ripping off a small corner of our little “Blessing Book” (where we write a blessing each day). I needed to write something down so I wouldn’t forget it, and that was the only paper I could see nearby. When he pointed it out, I noticed I do it a lot. I have little scrap notes throughout the house. Last night before bed, I remembered I needed to order pictures from walmart.com, and get an oil change for our car. I wrote little reminder notes on the back of a scratch paper that someone had given Jimmy with their email address written on it. This morning I ordered the pictures and ripped off the little oil change reminder part. I gave Jimmy back the little paper with the email address on it, and told him “The first letter of the email address is missing, but I remember what it is.” Jimmy looked at me like, ‘are you serious’ but luckily for me he’s patient and has a great sense of humor.

I can’t think of many quirks to write about that Jimmy does now, but I thought of 2 fun ones when we were dating. The first one is more of an “ism” I guess. On about our 7th date together, we went to the BYU Ballroom Dance concert (even though it was our 7th date, we still hadn’t even held hands yet… I was really slow) so things were still in the stage of wanting to make the best impressions. We were talking a little bit before it started, and Jimmy asked me if I wanted a piece of gum. I said, “yes” and he pulled out one stick of gum (from his nearly full pack) and ripped it in half. I took my half, and tried not to laugh. A few minutes later I excused myself to go up to the restroom, I spit out the half piece and got a whole piece of my own gum, I wasn’t sure a half would last very long. When I got back, Jimmy said, “Did I just give you a half stick of gum?” I said “yeah, that’s fine though” He was so embarrassed, and I was also embarrassed because I thought he noticed I spit out his gum and got my own kind.

When we were dating and first married, Jimmy used to wipe his lips with his thumb and index finger, then wipe it on his shirt. I just kind of thought it was funny. After we had been married a few months, I told him about it. At first he didn’t believe that he actually did that. Then one day he caught himself in the act. Later he said, “I wondered why I had little spots on my shirts in the same area”. Needless to say, he doesn’t do that anymore, but we still share one stick of gum :-)

Hunting for the right coat

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

Finding a good winter coat for Zeke was trickier than I thought it would be. I looked at Baby Gap, Old Navy, Mervyns, JC Penny, and even Target with little luck. Everywhere I went they only had 12 mo. size coats that were too big. I ended up buying one at Old Navy, they had a size 6-12 mo., but it was still way too big, and not very cute (with some things I’m so picky). Then, my mom, Zeke, and I went shopping at the South Town Mall, and I remembered I hadn’t checked The Children’s Place yet. I was so excited to find a 6-9mo. size coat, and I liked it better than all the others I had looked at. It seems warmer, and it has a fleece jacket liner that can be zipped on or off depending on if it’s a cooler, or freezing day.

Zeke the musician

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

Zeke is fascinated with music and musical instruments. He will even sing occasionally, which absolutely melts my heart!

It will be interesting to see if his love of music stays with him.

Zeke’s helpful tongue

Friday, December 7th, 2007

Lately, Zeke has been sticking his tongue out a lot. He recently got his first tooth and it’s on his bottom gums. So, It’s hard to tell if he just likes to feel his tooth with his little tongue while he plays or if he’s already using his tongue to help him concentrate.I think it’s so cute!

Lego fun

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

Jimmy and I put his Star Wars Lego ship together, and it was so much fun! He got it for Christmas 3 years ago, and it’s been in our closet waiting until he had enough time to put it together. I always figured he’d do it with a nephew, so I put it out to take to my parents’ home this Thanksgiving. On the night before Thanksgiving, he jokingly asked “Do you want to put the Star Destroyer together tonight?” playing along I replied, “sure” not thinking we would actually do it, but then I thought it might really be fun. We spent 3 hours doing the first part the night before Thanksgiving, and then 2 more hours last Friday night after Zeke went to bed. I never knew Legos were so cool! My brothers loved them growing up, but to me they seemed so overwhelming with all of the tiny pieces. It was a great activity to do together, and when we were finally done it was really neat to see what we had built.

It surprised me at how detailed Legos are, here it shows Darth Vader’s chamber. It even has the little stand for his mask to go on, and Darth Vader has a grayish scarred face under his mask like in the movie!
