Friday, August 29th, 2008

It was our first visit to the Museum of Ancient Life at Thanksgiving point. We went with Grandma Z, Aunt Kirty, and cousin Dallin.

Grandma with Dallin and Zeke

Zeke was afraid of most of the dinosaurs, but he liked the little one so much that he wanted to give it a kiss.

Zeke rode the pony at the Farm, he liked it so much, he even held onto the saddle horn. I was surprised, and I loved watching him ride it!

Thank you Grandma, we had a fun time!

Bug Buddy

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

We have a cool contraption for catching bugs/spiders, it’s called a bug buddy. It has a handle with a clear box and a thin clear slider that you can open and close over the box to catch a bug in, and then let it go outside.

The other day we caught this interesting little guy.

Before we released him outside, Zeke wanted to give him a kiss goodbye.

Petting Zoo and Cabella’s with Grandma Charlotte

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

A few weeks ago, we went to the petting zoo with Zeke’s grandma. Zeke loved all the animals!

He wasn’t even afraid of the donkey

No fear here

Okay, so he’s not 100% fearless, but the only thing he was a little leery about was the wagon ride.

I wonder what he’s thinking?

We went to Cabella’s too, they have awesome fish!

Wisdom teeth…ouch!

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

I had my wisdom teeth out Saturday. I was able to be put out, which I think is really fun to be totally out and not remember anything! Recovering has not been as much fun though. Jimmy has taken the best care of me and Zeke while I’ve been down, and family have been so caring too. I came home, and felt nauseous, but I really didn’t want to throw-up. Finally I did, and it hurt so bad, then a few hours later again, and after a few hours, again! I didn’t even have much in my tummy which made it worse. Jimmy has an uncle who is a Pharmacist, and he was so nice to come over late Saturday night and bring me some anti-nausea medicine, along with some Jell-o, Sprite, Tylenol, apple sauce, and chicken broth. Thanks so much Uncle Eric and Aunt Peggy! I stopped taking the Lortab (sp?), and switched to the Tylenol, and I haven’t thrown up since.

I have enjoyed listening to Jimmy and Zeke play all day. They have had a lot of fun, but it also makes me happy to know I was missed. Every time Zeke walked by our bedroom door I would hear him say, “mommy” and he would knock. He came in to visit me a lot. When I would get up, he liked to imitate me…

Where’s Zeke?

I really underestimated the recovery time I needed. I thought I would be able to go to church the next day, and be back to normal. Jimmy took Monday off of work to care for Zeke and me, and I’m so thankful he did. My cheeks puffed up so huge, and it still hurts, but I’m getting my strength back. It sure made me appreciate my health.

Questions: (if you comment, please answer the following)

How long was your wisdom teeth operation recovery?

Were you put out?

Did you throw up after?

Funny faces

Zeke’s smiley faces are my favorite!

august2008-06.jpg

I LOVE how his eyes go in to half moon shapes when he smiles so big!

This one turned out funny, he looks sad, but he was smiling, and laughing. He loves to make Jimmy and me laugh, especially when we’re all eating dinner.

He tried getting in through the top…

He tried getting his right hand through the door…

Excited about food storage!

Friday, August 8th, 2008

I wanted to post about our food storage in hopes that others could learn more about the cannery, (home storage center). I had never been to the cannery, and it seemed overwhelming for me, not knowing what, or how to go about buying food storage there. We had a great enrichment in June, with 4 mini classes. One had information about using wheat, and the teacher gave each of us a few papers about the cannery. I finally got around to calling the cannery this week, and I found out you can go in and buy things without having to can. Before I thought it would have to be a big day set aside, and I’d have to get a babysitter, and go can for 4+ hours. I also didn’t know if I was supposed to take in my own food to can. I was excited to find out I could go in with Zeke and buy a few things.

I bought this the first day.

We keep our food storage under the stairs, it fits more than we thought it would.

august2008-23.jpg

Yesterday I bought all of this. They sell each of these items, along with oats, in bulk quantities. They are sealed in #10 cans, and nicely packaged in the boxes which make storing them easier. The fruit leathers on top are from Costco, they are great because they are 100% fruit, and they each come with 48 servings.

You can find more information about the cannery, and food storage here.

Sharing with Charlie!

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

My younger brother Kevin recently got a cute little dog. He named him Charlie, after this cute video clip of two British brothers on youtube. Charlie is a lot of fun, and Zeke is so nice to share his food with him.

To the Zoo with Daddy!

Sunday, August 3rd, 2008

Everything is so much more fun when Daddy is with us! Jimmy is the awesomest, funnest, sweetest dad ever! I love watching him and Zeke together. We picked Jimmy up from work last week and went straight to the Zoo.

Zeke has the best smiles right now, and he usually does them when we say, “big smiles”. I love it!

The Ghost of the Bayou, albino alligator. Did you know that alligators can go a whole year without eating? They store, and live off of fat in their tail. Also, depending on the temperature of the nest, the litter will either be all male, or all female.  White alligators don’t survive long in the wild because they are easily spotted for prey of birds, or other alligators when they are babies. One more fun fact-Alligators in the wild live about 35-50 years, while alligators in captivity live significantly longer, about 60-80 years. I asked the Zoo keeper by the alligator a ton of questions, and he knew all the answers, I was impressed.

Regular alligator, or maybe a crocodile? Which ever it is, it slept with its mouth open. This picture gives me the creeps!

Zeke loved all the monkeys.

It was so fun seeing Zeke’s face light up as he recognized the animals from his books. It was my favorite Zoo trip ever!
