I had my wisdom teeth out Saturday. I was able to be put out, which I think is really fun to be totally out and not remember anything! Recovering has not been as much fun though. Jimmy has taken the best care of me and Zeke while I’ve been down, and family have been so caring too. I came home, and felt nauseous, but I really didn’t want to throw-up. Finally I did, and it hurt so bad, then a few hours later again, and after a few hours, again! I didn’t even have much in my tummy which made it worse. Jimmy has an uncle who is a Pharmacist, and he was so nice to come over late Saturday night and bring me some anti-nausea medicine, along with some Jell-o, Sprite, Tylenol, apple sauce, and chicken broth. Thanks so much Uncle Eric and Aunt Peggy! I stopped taking the Lortab (sp?), and switched to the Tylenol, and I haven’t thrown up since.
I have enjoyed listening to Jimmy and Zeke play all day. They have had a lot of fun, but it also makes me happy to know I was missed. Every time Zeke walked by our bedroom door I would hear him say, “mommy” and he would knock. He came in to visit me a lot. When I would get up, he liked to imitate me…
Where’s Zeke?
I really underestimated the recovery time I needed. I thought I would be able to go to church the next day, and be back to normal. Jimmy took Monday off of work to care for Zeke and me, and I’m so thankful he did. My cheeks puffed up so huge, and it still hurts, but I’m getting my strength back. It sure made me appreciate my health.
Questions: (if you comment, please answer the following)
How long was your wisdom teeth operation recovery?
Were you put out?
Did you throw up after?

Oh you poor thing! I didn’t have ANY wisdom teeth. I was really (my dad didn’t have any either) But I can totally understand the nausea and throwing up part. When I had my sinus surgery I was throwing up for a week before they realized that I was ALLERGIC to my PAIN MEDS! I do not do well with anything powerful! Maybe its something about being so tiny? I don’t know, But I really hope you feel better soon!
had mine out twice. I had the bottom ones out when I was a teen, was put out, but they gave me a double dose of the anesthetics because it wasn’t working the first time. Yeah, not a good idea. I was numb for 3 days, then once I could feel I noticed I had chewed the inside of my cheeks to death and was super sore for a week!!! Second time, for my uppers was when I was pregnant with Benjamin (I gave birth 2 weeks later). Since I was pregnant, just local anesthetics, which I absolutely loved and would do again if I had to have any more removed (which I don’t) Although, I had my husband in the office with me, and after giving me the shot a few minutes later a threw up all over an assistant :( Poor girl. The dentist was so concerned for me he said, I can have both your teeth out within 5 minutes. I thought he was crazy, but I was awake, watched “Good Morning America” and I think he did have them out before the 5 min. were up!!! I wasn’t even in much pain, just felt a tiny bit of pressure. It was cool to look at my teeth. My recovery was SOOO much quicker. I could eat normal food the next day. I was so nervous about being so far along and not being able to eat that I just had a bunch of yummy smoothies :)
Oh that does not sound fun. I need to make an appointment to get mine out and I’m not really looking forward to it. Those are very cute pictures of Zeke though, that is so nice to have so many people to help take care of you. Hopefully you start feeling better soon.
It took me 3 weeks to recover because I had dry sockets. It was really bad. I didn’t use a straw (or smoke) so I don’t know why I got them, but I did. OW.
Ouchie! I had mine out when I was 18 and they put me out for the procedure. I threw up quite a bit afterwards, but we later figured out that it was just a bad reaction to the perkaset I was on. I think it took 3-4 days to feel back to normal (except my mouth was still sore).
That is so sweet Zeke misses his mommy! I bet he’s having lots of fun playing with daddy though :)
I was put out. I only had wisdom teeth on the top, but it took me a few days to feel like I could eat more than chocolate pudding and yogurt. I suggest icing ALL THE TIME. It will make the swelling go down. I had ice on my cheeks as long as possible. My only complaint was that they had to stretch my mouth open so wide that I had sores on the outside corners of my mouth that looked like pimples. I think you’ll find that you bounce back relatively quickly.
I was put out. I threw up on the way home (luckily my mom pulled over and i made it in time to get it on the grass rather than in the van) but I don’t think i threw up after that one(i also only took probably one loritab and then switched to ibprofen or tylenol b/c I didn’t like how i felt w/loritab). I don’t remember how long the recovery was exactly…probably a few days.
I am so sorry! Getting your wisdom teeth pulled is no fun! You looked so good in the picture for being in so much pain. That is nice to have your husband work out so muh. I was put out for mine and it probably took me a good week to feel ok. If I remember right. I didn’t throw up but I got really sick like 2 days later that made things worse.
I had my wisdom teeth pulled a week before my first day at BYU (needless to say, I didn’t attend any of the orientation). I was put under, and my sister tells me I talked all the way back to my grandmas house (don’t remember a THING!). I was back to normal about three days later, although I did have to irrigate for another two weeks because I had two dry sockets. I was surprised to hear they put you on lortab. They only gave me Tylenol with codeine. I didn’t throw up, and the way you describe it, I would for sure think it’s a reaction to the lortab. Might want to note that for future painful situations. That’s great your uncle was there with some meds. Those things are GREAT. You look fabulous, and although you say your cheeks are puffy, they don’t look it. I’ll have to share with you some pictures after my surgery was done :)
Hopefully things are going better for you. If you need anything I can help out. I had a horrid experience with my wisdom teeth. I was totally put out because mine were “impacted.” It took me forever to recover mainly because my bleeding did not stop on its own, I had to go back in and they had to cotarize it (I don’t know if that is how you spell it), anyway I too had puffy cheeks for what seemed like forever. But I don’t remember any throwing up after it, it was a long time ago though I was 16 when I got them out. Feel better and let me know if I can do anything for you.
I’m so sorry you’re going through that! It seems like mine was a week or so recovery, but I was really blessed in that I never through up.
I totally remember thinking that I’d rather die than vomit. I’m sorry that happened.
I love your blog and I appreciated your post on food storage. Which cannery did you go to to buiy your stuff? I hope you feel better!
So sorry you are in pain!! I had my wisdom teeth out just after Evelyn was born. I did throw up but only once. I was upset because I never threw up when I was pregnant – - it took getting my wisdom teeth out for me to throw up! Oh well. I think I could open my mouth just wide enough to take small bites of a hamburger after about a week. I’m glad your husband is taking such good care of you and Zeke, that definately helps!!
Ouch! We were living in Wymount when mines were taken out. Everybody seemed to be so happy around me, and I was in so much misery! I don’t know how to handle pain very well, do you remember my thumb-gigantic problem?, you guys were so nice to me, and it was just a nail! So dramatic!
For me, the recovery took about 10 days, I mean-to feel totally normal, I never throw up, maybe because I wasn’t eating at all, just liquids. Is a good time to loose some pounds…but you don’t need that at all ah! I remember having a mirror with me all the time because I wanted to see what was going on in there, I know, I’m weird.
Anyways, enjoy the comfort of being in bed, you’ll need all that energy when Jimmy goes back to work!
I hope you are feeling better everyday! My wisdom teeth weren’t too bad at all.. they had started growing in, so they pulled them like real teeth. I had about a day of recovery time, that day was not fun at all, but no throwing up!!
Yuck! Loretab made me sick too when I got my wisdom teeth out. Hope you get feeling better soon!
I had three of mine pulled when I was 18 (I think) and it was first thing on a Saturday morning. I was put out and I still don’t remember anything about getting back to my sister’s place. I slept all day while bleeding all over my poor niece’s pillow, and then we went out to Souper Salad for dinner. I remember eating a baked potato and thinking that was good progress. I don’t remember taking much medication either. Honestly after reading everyone else’s horror stories I’m sure it was just a huge blessing because I had to be back up to Ricks by Monday and I was pretty much all better by then. But I do remember thinking that I owed all my quick recovery to that curved syringe he gave me to spray food out of the holes after I ate – I was pretty religious about it.
I really hope your recovery is about over for you…as a matter of fact, I’ll be giving you a ring tomorrow. :D
You look way too cute for having just gotten your wisdom teeth out!! I hope you are feeling better soon…I bet recover is hard when you are trying to take care of a busy little one.
I had all four taken out at the same time when I was 16, and then seperately after that two of them got infected so I got knocked out three times in all. I was pretty excited about that at the time. :) And I think it’s the cutest thing ever when kids play with Daddy. Nothing else like that in the world. :)
Hey Esther!
I had my wisdom teeth taken out when I was 14. They were really compacted, but if I had them out then I wouldn’t have to have braces. I got to be put out which was really scary since it was my first IV and they had to give me laughing gas to put it in. I didn’t throw up though. I did get dry sockets though. I hope you don’t get them. I still remember how much they hurt. I was in bed for a few days and then slowly got better. :) Good luck! We missed you at Grandma’s last week! :)
Hey there! Didn’t see you at Church yesterday. Hope you are doing alright!
Oh wow that looks like it hurts. Now I am even more scared for whenever I have to get my wisdom teeth out.
I’m sorry your experience was so bad. I was 2 mo. pregnant w/Taylor, but they weren’t impacted and he only did my top ones. They came right out and I even drove myself home. My bottom ones after she was born were pretty much the same way. I guess I lucked out. I didn’t even know you were having this done. I hope you are feeling better.
